The Dragoneers Club is a twice-monthly afterschool club for school age children. Each Dragoneer receives a free Tee shirt with the Dragoneer logo on it and a free paperback book featuring a dragon.

There is a little something for everyone in the Dragoneers.

The first meeting of the month is a book club with each month having a different theme. Each Dragoneer chooses any book, fiction or nonfiction, that ties in with that theme to tell the rest of the Dragoneers about. For the first meeting on September 9, participants will tell about their favorite book. The other meetings are a mix of speakers, craft projects and other activities.

At each meeting the Dragoneer turns in an attendance sheet with list of books he or she has read since the last meeting. Every four books and three meetings allows the Dragoneer to rise in rank from Varlet, to Page, to Squire, to Knight over the course of one school year. Twice a year Knights are dubbed at special ceremonies and the symbols of rank are awarded.

Children’s librarians Connie Dye and Christie Baldwin run the Dragoneers Club, which is funded by the sale of used books in the FOLK Bookstore. Friends Of the Library Kingwood board member Raquel Henry assists with activities as well. The club meets on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at 4400 Bens View Lane.
