FOLK Awarded HEB Tournament of Champions Grant

HEB Champions Grant

Karen Buchler, FOLK Fundraising Board Member, and Sarah Cooper, HCPL Librarian, with two of our New Parenting Books

Last Fall, the Library and FOLK applied for a grant from H-E-B to purchase parenting books. Recently, we were notified that the grant was accepted. The Library and FOLK extend our thanks to the H-E-B My Community Investment program for their support. The books are purchased and already on the shelves in the Parenting section of the Family Place area.

The Trustees write in their notification letter: “The H-E-B Tournament of Champions is pleased to provide Friends of the Library – Kingwood (FOLK) with assistance in the amount of $500 in support of Children & Families Life Skills Books Grant. We are proud to assist your efforts and want to congratulate you on the meaningful impact you are making in the community.” The mission of FOLK is to stimulate gifts of books and to generate funds in support of the library. For more information about FOLK, visit the website www.kingwoodfolk.org.

The Kingwood Library participates in the Family Place Libraries initiative. This is a nationwide effort to promote parental involvement in child growth. These grant funds purchased new books to expand our Family Place offerings. Additional information regarding the initiative can be found at familyplacelibraries.org.

We encourage you to visit the Family Place Library in the Children’s Library. It is located in the Children’s Library. Families play and learn together using equipment, books for children and parents, and interactive items. It is an exciting and very busy area of the library.
