Friends of Libraries Share Ideas

On May 5, 2023 representatives from nine Friends groups in Harris County met at the Kingwood Branch Library. The hosts for the event was the Friends of the Library Kingwood (FOLK) and the Kingwood Branch Library. FOLK Board members Christi Whittington and Kathleen White coordinated the event.

The Harris County Friends of the Library (HCFOL) President Susan Greer moderated the conversations. Also, HCFOL officers and board members attended the meeting. FOLK was pleased to welcome Library Friends organizations from: Barbara Bush, Crosby, High Meadows, Octavia Fields, Atascocita, North Channel, Lone Star College -Tomball, Lone Star college – CyFair and Kingwood.

This event was valuable for all attendees for sharing of ideas and seeing the results of other Friends groups efforts. Topics included: finances, membership, advertising, bookstores, online sales, and new ideas. The FOLK treasurer spoke about their 501c3 status, types of banking accounts, and budgets. FOLK Vice President gave a presentation about the FOLK online store. After the discussions lead by Susan, the 34 attendees toured the FOLK Used Bookstore and the Library. FOLK Board members and Library staff were present to answer questions and give tours.

Special Thanks to Ryan Fennell, Branch Manager and Carolyn Allen, our photographer. Thank you FOLK Board members Connie Jaeger, Tammy Ray, Roger Whitney, Christi Whittington, Kelly Roxburgh, and Kathleen White.
